Welcome to the Reception class webpage

Please click here to see the spring curriculum letter and here for the curriculum map for Reception. Our topic this term is Once Upon a Time.  We are inviting parents to come into the classroom to read a story to the class!  There is a sign up sheet on the classroom door -please write your name and choose a day yu would like to come in - all sessions are at 3pm unless if you come and chatted to me about it.

Return to school

We are really looking forward to seeing the children on Monday.  There have been some changes to the classroom and to pick up and drop off pricedures.  I have uploaded some videos onto Seesaw that will support the children with the changes.  If you need a new Seesaw logon let me know.

Home learning

I hope that everybody is staying safe and healthy!  We are missing you all and can't wait until it is safe enough for you to all come back to school. The children who are attending school are doing PE with Joe Wicks every morning - give it a try!

Everybody should be working through the home learning packs.....thank you for all of the great frog pictures - they really made me smile!  Please remember that I have included my email in the packs - please contatct me if you have any questions.  Keep checking the website, we are trying to work out how to upload videos onto the website which should help with phonics.  I am trying to get round to everybody to deliver home learning packs and change reading books (at a 2m distance) once a week - but just in case I miss you I have uploaded the home learning below.

Doodle maths

After 3 weeks at the top of the leader board our crown has gone to years 2 and 3!  Please make sure that the children are doodling for 30 minutes everyday.  Parents - please try NOT to give the children the answers.  If they are finding it challenging then you can read and explain the questions to your child and give them objects to support their counting.  Come on Reception - we need to beat them and get our place back at the top of the leader board!

Well done for sharing so much of your amazing home learning on Seesaw.  I love seeing what you have been doing and watching your videos.  Remember to upload a video of you reading!  If anybody can'f find their Seesaw login let me know and I will email another copy over to you.

Torchlit Walk

Our sponsored Torchlit Walk in December raised a huge £590!  Well done and a huge thank you to everybody who took part and brought in their sponsorship money!  The money was used to pay for our trip to the theatre in December.  The rest of the money will go towards our next trip so that we can keep the costs down.

This term we will be working on Phase 3 phonics sounds.  These consist of lots of digraphs and trigraphs (2 and 3 letters which make 1 sound - e.g c and h which makes ch as in chicken.

Please try and work on the high frequency words and practice the weekly sounds.  If you haven't downloaded Teach Your Monster to Read then try and do it asap.  It will support the children as they learn to read.  Please keep practicing blending and segmenting the sounds in words and supprt the children to extend their ability to rhyme.  I would also recommend logging on to lgflbusythings - this is a great resource for phonics, handwriting and maths.  Logons for new children will be given out over the next few weeks.

Homework is given out every Friday and should be returned on the following Wednesday.  Please remember that your role is to support the children - not do the work for them.  The homework will be linked to the learning that has happened in the classroom that week.  It is important that the children complete all of it.  If you need any help with the homeowrk then please come and chat to me.  I am always happy to go through it with you.

Reading books will go out with the homework on Friday, please read with your child every day.  Little and often is more beneficial than reading for a long block of time.  If you have any questions about the homework then please speak to Miss Barbara.
