St John's Upper Holloway C.E Primary School

Jesus said: 'Love each other as I have loved you'. - John 15:12

Welcome to the Reception class webpage

A warm welcome to all of our new children and a huge welcome back to all of our returning children!  Over the first half term we will be getting to know each other a little better and making sure that all of the children know the rules around keeping safe in the school - for example washing our hands regularly, enhanced cleaning and staying in our Early Years 'bubble.'  If you have any questions about how we will be keeping the chidlren safe then please come and chat to Miss Barbara.

Within the Reception class we plan around high qulaity core texts.  The texts and examples of the activities and learning objectives can be found on the curriulum map which will be given out when all of the children are back in the classroom.  Click here to see a copy of the curriculum map for this half term.

Homework will be sent out via Seesaw.  Every child has a seesaw logon and password.  If you need any support getting started with Seesaw please speak to Miss Barbara. If you do not have access to the internet then please speak to Miss Barbara.

This half term we will be consolidating our phase 1 phonics.  The children will be learning to blend and segnment the sounds in simple words.  For example c-a-t blended together is cat, bat segmented is b-a-t.

If you haven't downloaded Teach Your Monster to Read then try and do it asap.  It will support the children as they learn to read.  Please keep practicing blending and segmenting the sounds in words and supprt the children to extend their ability to rhyme.  I would also recommend logging on to lgflbusythings - this is a great resource for phonics, handwriting and maths. Please speak to Miss Barbara if you need another copy of your log on.

Homework is sent out every Friday and should be completed by the following Wednesday.  Please remember that your role is to support the children - not do the work for them.  The homework will be linked to the learning that has happened in the classroom that week.  It is important that the children complete all of it.  If you need any help with the homework then please come and chat to me.  I am always happy to go through it with you.

Reading books will go out with the homework on Friday, please read with your child every day.  Little and often is more beneficial than reading for a long block of time.  If you have any questions about the homework then please speak to Miss Barbara.

We create a slideshow of the learning that has taken place each week to share with the children and warmly welcome any parents to come and join us for these each Friday.

We recognise that parents are busy and can't always come into the classroom and so have posted the most recent slideshows below.
