Autumn Term

A warm welcome to all of our new children and we are so happy to see all of those children transferring from Nursery!

The children will have a staggered start to the term so please check your parentmail for details of specific start dates.

This half term we will be supporting the children to make new friends and consolidate their old friendships.  A huge part of this half term will be supporting the children as they make the transition into the Reception classroom, learn how the classroom works and how they can extend their self-initiated play.

We have some amazing core stories planned, including one of my favourites On Sudden Hill!  As ever, please do not read the core books until we have completed them in school. Curriculum maps will be sent out via parentmail, you can find the curriculum map here.  If you would like a hard copy of the map then please let me know.

After the half term we will be learning through the theme of Food.  This is a lovely theme with the festivals of Diwali and Christmas at the core. You can look at the curriculum map here.  Again, if you would like a hard copy please let me know.

Seesaw

Homework will be sent out via Seesaw.  Every child has a seesaw logon and password.  If you need any support getting started with Seesaw or if you do not have access to the internet then please speak to me.

Phonics

You can access the Little Wandle parents site:  https://www.littlewandlelettersandsounds.org.uk/resources/for-parents/

Each week the children will bring home a phonics reading book and a reading for pleasure book that they have chosen from the school library. Please make sure that you are supporting your child to read to you every day and read to your child everyday!  This will have a huge impact on the development of their phonics understanding and will extend their vocabulary.  The children will be learning 4 new phonemes a week. Please check on Seesaw for videos of the phonemes we have been learning.

If you haven't downloaded Teach Your Monster to Read then try and do it asap.  It will support the children as they learn to read.  Please keep practising blending and segmenting the sounds in words and support the children to extend their ability to rhyme.  I would also recommend logging on to lgflbusythings - this is a great resource for phonics, handwriting and maths. Log on will be sent home inside the homework books.

Homework

Homework is sent out every Friday and should be completed by the following Wednesday.  Please remember that your role is to support the children - not do the work for them.  The homework will be linked to the learning that has happened in the classroom that week.  It is important that the children complete all of it.  If you need

any help with the homework then please come and chat to me.  I am always happy to go through it with you.

Reading books will go out with the homework on Friday, please read with your child every day.  Little and often is more beneficial than reading for a long block of time.  If you have any questions about the homework then please speak to Miss Barbara.

Slideshows 2022-23

We create a slideshow of the learning that has taken place each week to share with the children and warmly welcome any parents to come and join us for these each Friday. We recognise that parents are busy and can't always come into the classroom and so have posted the most recent slideshows below.
